Varieties of Social Networks

Tags: , , ,

I stumbled into a social network through a link on the LITA list. PRONETOS is:

a home to communities and scholars of every academic discipline: a global think-tank of the leaders in your field.

I’ve been trying to make sense of FaceBook. While I think I understand it,  I don’t get it. I haven’t found anything that would draw me to spend much time there.

Pronetos, on the other hand, is an interesting place, with disciplinary focused conversations. It’s worth a second look, and perhaps a third….

    I suppose Pronetos is a good concept, though its programming (or perhaps its editing) could use a little attention. On your thumbnail, it reads:

    Boston / MA

    * Curator of Archives and Manuscripts
    * in Pitts Theology Library
    * at Emory University

    Too bad there’s nothing about religion on that list of disciplines. I looked at a few others, and there weren’t many participants, but perhaps it’s just starting.

    I have to admit, even though I’m a philosopher, I do spend a good bit of time on Facebook. But, no, I wouldn’t go there for any geniune scholarly community. I just checked out Pronetos, and registered. It looks interesting.
