Peter Merholz challenges Adam Mathes’ use of the term “folksonomy,” suggesting that it is derived from taxonomy that implies a hierarchical classification system when Mathes is really describing a non-hierarchical system. There is quite a debate about terminology but general agreement that Mathes is on target in his description of the two approaches to organizing information.
