On Monday night WTBU, Boston University’s student-run radio station, hosted a concert which showcased some of Boston’s best underground hip-hop acts at BU Central. WTBU teamed up with Music Unites to put on the concert. Collections for the cause were collected at the door. Music Unites is a charity organization that provides funds for music programs in underprivileged school. For more information on Music Unites please visit their website: http://www.musicunites.org/.

As a WTBU DJ I am really interested and invested in local and underground music. However, Monday’s showcase was my first experience with underground hip-hop in Boston. I tend to go to a lot of rock and punk shows but it was really great to get some exposure to a different underground music scene in Boston. The showcase featured a lot of different artists including DJ Goutlet, MeTal, Charmingly Ghetto, Retrospek, Dutch Rubelle, Aziz and Chuuwee. Please click on the links to check out these artists.

Check out some photos of the concert above! For more information about WTBU check out their website. If you are interested in finding out more about underground hip-hop in Boston check out these rap radio shows on WTBU (89.3FM/640AM/wtburadio.org): Midnight Marauders Sundays 6-8pm and The Four Elements Saturdays 10pm-12am.

You have not heard Boston truly represent it’s talent until you have heard Rome Luc. This dude lyrically is comparable to Rakim. He is real and paints a picture when he is on the mic. It’s crazy…
