London has been city to offer me a number of “first” experiences. At my first week of my new intership for The Crane.tv, I was able to attend my first fashion show at London Fashion Week.
The Crane.tv is a first within itself. A brand new start-up company, the Crane.tv is an online video magazine. For the remainder of my time in London, I will be spending a full work week editing videos to help with the launch of the site.
On my first day, I was ushered backstage for interviews before the catwalk. Backstage passes, interviews with designers, models, make-up artists, and hair designers, an hour of exciting chaos before the big show. Models were transformed with many different cosmetics and hair products. Press people knocked into each other as we all attempted to capture the transition from a group of separate models into the single intention of the designers’ collection.
As the show drew closer, the press began to meander out to the catwalk stage area. Photographers and videographers attempted to stay organized as the press pit at the end of the catwalk began to fill up. Minor arguments arose between some photographers as the area became jammed packed. The lights dropped down, the room went silent, and music came up. As the first model walked out, the photographers began snapping away.
For the next twenty minutes, the constant flashes of cameras accompanied the models as they introduced the designers’ newest styles to the public. The styles were eagerly accepted and designers greeted with applause as the lights came up.
For the following week, I attend multiple fashion shows. Being part of the press offered a pretty exciting first day and first week at the internship. I am looking forward to any other firsts I manage to find in my last two months living in London.
